Alzheimer's Disease, Scientific Basis of Ayurvedic treatment
World Alzheimer Day, September 21s t
21 September is recognized as "World Alzheimer's Day. It is wrong to say that this day is celebrated as "World Alzheimer's Day" because the associated celebrations for fun and good memories. In the case of Alzheimer's disease, is suffering hidden in the disease process. This article can help to find a ray of hope to all Alzheimer's patients. Today we are completing 103 years to discover Alzheimer's disease, but there are still many gray areas in the field in terms of understanding the cause, diagnosis and proper treatment to reach the solution.
What is Alzheimer's disease?
Alzheimer's disease is a type of mental disorder that affects the process of memory-related brain functions. As at the time, is considered incurable. The progress of Alzheimer's disease is very slow, but affects permanently eliminating the thought process, skills trial and, finally, an affected person becomes incompetent to carry out day to day for their own survival. Most cases are over 60 years age, but the pathology of this disease starts 10-15 years before symptoms are noticed. At first, symptoms are taken very seriously by chance that scarcely know anyone. Gradually, the disease spreads to other parts of the brain that interferes with all physiological functions of the brain.
Medically, it is recognized as the progressive degeneration of brain tissue. The disease is named based on observations made by the German psychiatrist and neuropathologist Alois Alzheimer in 1906. It was the first to link the symptoms of memory loss and structural changes in the brain of a woman after his death. It was found that the brain of Mrs. tangles and a plaque was made of protein fragments and the entire structure was drastically changed. It is now more than 103 years after the disease is known by the medical community, but there is no remedy for the cure.
What is the cause?
The short answer to this question is "no known. "There are some imaginative theories on the basis of epidemiological data as follows:
1) Individuals with depression are more prone to Alzheimer's disease.
2) Statins (drugs given to reduce cholesterol) increased incidence of disease AD. Recent research by Professor Yeon-Kyun Shin, Iowa State University recently published a comprehensive report on its work on this topic.
3) It is likely that the causes include genetic factors, environmental and lifestyle factors. A gene on chromosome 19 is associated with onset Alzheimer's disease late.
4) Other risk factors for Alzheimer's disease include high blood pressure (hypertension), coronary artery disease, diabetes blood cholesterol and possibly higher.
5) Some studies have found that women are more at risk for Alzheimer's disease than men.
6) Few studies have shown that Alzheimer's disease is more common in cases of previous head injuries.
7) also studied the therapy of estrogen after menopause causes Alzheimer's disease.
But these causes are entirely hypothetical. No specific data available to understand the real cause. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to take any precautionary measure to prevent or treat Alzheimer's disease.
From the medical fraternity has little to offer Alzheimer's disease, the doctor plays an important role in managing such cases. Common suggestions are given to patients, as regular exercise, good nutrition, peace of mind, hygienic environment, friendly atmosphere, with communication, etc. Virtually all happy these recommendations are good for any individual for health and general welfare. There is nothing specifically attributable to Alzheimer's disease.
What is the treatment of Alzheimer's disease?
The short answer to this question is "No treatment". According to modern medicine, when the cause is not clearly understood, how can there be a solution? Most infectious diseases, the causative organism is detected and is therefore easy to find a recipe for overcoming the infection. In diseases of systemic origin, the pathophsiology misunderstood and that treatment becomes easy. In Alzheimer's disease, the picture is different. The mechanism of the disease is unknown and therefore "no treatment". There is a drug, donepezil, that is used to treat the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease in people with mild to moderate disease. The drug can cause small improvements in dementia for a period short time, but donepezil did not stop the progression of Alzheimer's disease. Donepezil helps prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine in the brain, thereby increasing temporarily concentration. Doing so improves the thinking process, facilitating the transmission of nerve impulses in the brain. Diarrhea, nausea and vomiting occur more often with the 10 mg dose of 5 mg. Other side effects include abnormal dreams, depression, drowsiness, dizziness, loss of appetite, weight loss, frequent urination, arthritis, easy bruising, difficulty sleeping, dizziness, nausea, muscle cramps, headache or other pains. Donepezil not sure as it also has interaction with many other medications that alter its effects. Since there is no other option left, donepezil is prescribed for the disease AD. The medical field should have the doors open to welcome new ideas and safe drugs to treat this terrible disease.
What alternative?
Considering the pathophysiology of the disease, it is rational to think if Ayurveda can offer something in Alzheimer's Disease? It is true that the disease was not mentioned in Ayurveda with this name, but there are many recipes for the treatment mentioned several types of mental disorders, psychological and emotional. While studying the issue, many hidden things that got out of immense importance in the management of Alzheimer's disease. Few references are noted below the scientific thinkers.
Drug nasal 1) immediate access to the brain, as it avoids the blood-brain barrier. Therefore, the nasal route would be the best way to treat Alzheimer's disease. Ayurveda has mentioned very clearly that the nose is the gateway to the brain and diseases attributed to the central nervous system can be treated successfully only with nasal medication. American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) has published a research paper on this concept and the conclusion is "In summary, the advantages of intranasal delivery are considerable. It is both rapid and noninvasive. BBB is ignored and the objectives of the CNS, the reduction in systemic exposure and side effects therefore systemic. Even for drugs that can cross the BBB, which may reduce side effects system, reducing the need for drugs to enter the systemic circulation. Not require any modification of the therapeutic agent being delivered and should work for a wide range of medicines. Intranasal delivery may facilitate the treatment and prevention of neurological numerous and various psychiatric disorders .
S Talegaonkar, PR Mishra, Indian J Pharmacol June 2004 Vol 36 No. 3, 140-147
2) The human brain is approximately 70% fat and 30% protein. Therefore has a natural affinity toward lipids for normal operation. Given the references of Ayurvedic texts, butter cow is the best available lipids and has 3 different actions on the nervous system. Acquisition, storage and retrieval are the 3 basic functions brain and ghee of cow has the properties to improve these three times brain function. It's so easy to understand that water is not readily soluble in oil, but other oil or ghee can be easily absorbed. Therefore, the herbal medicinal water soluble or not readily penetrate the brain. This concept is very scientifically with research on new drugs in Europe for Huntington's disease. Huntington's disease ( "HD") is a genetic neurodegenerative disease characterized by movement disorders, dementia and psychiatric disorders. Early symptoms may affect cognitive ability or mobility and include depression, mood swings, forgetfulness, clumsiness, involuntary twitching and lack of coordination. Later, concentration and short-tem memory diminish and involuntary movements head, trunk and limbs increase. Eventually, the person is unable to care for himself. Death follows from complications including choking, infection or heart failure. The drug developed to treat this is basically a base of Omega 3 fatty acids, administered orally and has proved very effective. The drug is in the process of launching worldwide in a short period of time. Ayurveda has given emphasis on the cow ghee is also a fat, easy access and has been a home the subject of Indian cooking.
3) A brain wave "P300" is linked to memory and learning. The faster the rate of transmission, brain function more efficiently. The researchers took 26 volunteers connected with electrodes and checking the rate of p300. Immediately after taking the test, were given DHA (derived from omega-3). Two hours later, their brain waves were measured, and this time the rate of P300 was significantly faster in the group. This supports the importance of lipids in neurotransmission as well. What is Ayurveda has also recommended close at hand in hand with this research. Therefore, in the Indian tradition it is customary to put a few drops of oil (the goal is to introduce a fatty substance) during the massage given from the period of childhood.

- The nasal route is studied for the administration of active drugs for systemic delivery is convenient, reliable and fast. A drug developed was administered by the nasal route and the fluorescent image showed that the absorption is 100 ± 30% in only 1.5 minutes

- Another investigation of the VA Medical Center, San Francisco, USA, which is published in the journal "Future Neurology, in 2008, says that "the nose may help the brain, the intranasal drug delivery for treating neurological diseases.
There are number final published research articles that give us a guideline for the treatment of neurological diseases and could be a breakthrough in the treatment of disease AD. Not only Ayurveda but still modern research also supports the concept of treating diseases of the brain through nasal route. Importance of lipids in neurological disorders is well established by modern medicine that is evident in the Ayurvedic classics. India's traditional support of life of the theory of substance use to lubricate the unctuous sense organs which are the sensory pathways to enter the central nervous system. Despite that, why do we address the issue of Alzheimer's disease?
When should start treatment nasal?
Symptoms of Alzheimer's disease begin to appear after 10 to 15 years later, after the real pathology begins in the brain. Therefore, it is very important to start treatment at the age of 50 years.
Many herbs have shown great improvement in the brain at the cellular level. Acquaintances are of Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Shankhapushpi (Alsinoides Evolvulus), Vacha (Acorus calamus), Saffron (Crocus sativus), Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), etc. oral medications have difficulty reaching the brain because there is a physiological mechanism called the blood brain barrier, which prohibits the absorption. Therefore, it is practical to use these herbs in the form of nasal drug and should be handled by the special method called "Sneha – Paka – Widhi" described in Ayurveda. This will bypass the blood brain barrier and allow the active ingredients of herbs to reach the central nervous system and stop the progress of the Alzheimer's disease over time. Besides this, the nasal medication also helps improve vision, hair fall arrest and prevention of gray hair to improve hearing and many other diseases attributed to ORL and supra-clavicular disorders. As synthetic drugs have side effects, Ayurvedic medicines have secondary benefits. Unknowingly, these formulations provide some added benefits and contribute to positive health achievements.
As in the date, no technique available to detect or predict Alzheimer's disease advance. The fingers therefore is safe to start medication in the nasal and age of 50 and crossed and keep thinking positive momentum for health in old age. Ayurveda recommends this treatment be done on a daily nasal, 4 to 6 drops in both nostrils nose, preferably in the morning or afternoon. It is good to take a sip of water after the introduction of the drops, if there is a feeling of content from throat. Since the base is buffalo, the bottle should be warm to liquefy the content if it is not flowing properly.
Given the research in the modern era and the display of the verses in Ayurveda is evident that the ancient science has enormous untapped potential. Rather it is a golden treasure for human beings but needs to be explored and understood correctly. It often seems that Ayurveda has given short verse with great effect that is equivalent to a doctorate in that field. It's like a question and the answer in the Ayurveda, modern research helps you find the various stages in the answer.

San Francisco $15.16 SAN FRANCISCO was one of the most successful picture of the 1930s, and the sources of its popularity are readily apparent to this day. Both Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy are excellent, with Gable playing Blackie Norton, a dashing, brawling, gambler with a big heart, and Tracy playing Nob Hill snob Jack Talbot, who vies with Blackie for the attentions of beauty Mary Blake (Jeanette MacDonald). MacDonald’s voice is as good as gold as she sings the title song, arias, popular music, and religious tunes. MGM built genuine reproductions of preearthquake San Francisco for the sets, including landmarks that were destroyed in the 1906 natural disaster. The special effects are accomplished with an aplomb equal to anything produced previous to the digital era, re-creating the quake with alarming and frightening realism. And, unlike many subsequent disaster films, SAN FRANCISCO’s plot is sufficiently engaging to make the film worthwhile even without the climactic catastrophe. With it, W.S. Van Dyke’s SAN FRANCISCO becomes a fabulous melodrama that should not be missed. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved. |
